Welsh farmers have until year-end to finish scheme tasks or face payment cuts
Welsh Government has issued advance Sustainable Farming Scheme payments equal to 80% of expected claim values since 15 October 2026, with remaining advances going out until 3 November. Balance payments are planned from mid December, but only after farmers confirm on their Universal Dashboard that their required Universal Actions, the scheme's set of farm tasks, are done. Most of these tasks are due by 31 December 2026, and any that are not reported as complete by 15 January 2027 will reduce the payment by 4% each.
What does it mean?
If you farm under the Sustainable Farming Scheme, you need to finish your required tasks and tell the government on your online dashboard before the balance of your payment can be worked out. Most tasks must be done by 31 December 2026, and a missed task can cut your payment by 4%.
Who is affected?
Farmers taking part in the Sustainable Farming Scheme who are waiting for their balance payments.
