New bill to amend the Agriculture Law is in parliamentary committees
The bill, bearing the first signature of Democrat Party İzmir MP Haydar Altıntaş, was submitted to the Speaker's Office on 22 October 2026. It calls for the budget's share for agricultural subsidies to be no less than one percent of GDP, and for no VAT or special consumption tax (ÖTV) to be applied to diesel and fertilizer bought by registered farmers. The bill is currently with the Plan and Budget Committee and the Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Committee.
What does it mean?
If the bill becomes law, farmers registered in the farmer registration system may not pay tax on the diesel and fertilizer they use on their fields. The bill also asks that the state budget set aside for farm support at least one percent of the country's gross domestic product. The bill is still in committee, so no change is in effect yet.
Who is affected?
Agricultural producers registered in the farmer registration system.
