Health Minister Memişoğlu shares data on smoking and health services
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu spoke at the Turkish Parliamentary Union programme on 24 October 2026. The minister highlighted obesity and tobacco use as priority problems and said smoking among the 13-17 age group stood at 30 percent. In his speech he also touched on cancer screening, family medicine and the increase in hospital infrastructure.
What does it mean?
According to the minister, smoking among young people is very high and this is a serious problem. He said the number of hospitals and beds in health services has increased, and that family doctors also play a role in early cancer diagnosis.
