Road collisions and casualties in Wales keep falling after 20mph limit
Mark Hooper welcomed figures showing Welsh road collisions and casualties kept dropping in the quarter to June 2026. Collisions on all roads were 19% lower than a year earlier, and 22% lower on 20mph and 30mph roads.
What does it mean?
Fewer crashes and injuries are being recorded on Welsh roads, and the government credits the 20mph default limit in part.
Who is affected?
Drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in Wales.
What changes?
Compared with 2023, before the 20mph default limit, collisions on 20mph and 30mph roads are now 37% lower.
