Japan's transport ministry holds gender network meeting with private sector

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism held the first meeting of the second term of its Gender Network Conference on October 22 (Reiwa 8). Eighteen people from private firms and groups in fields such as real estate, construction, transport and tourism met with ministry staff to talk about how to bring more diverse viewpoints into workplaces and policy. Gender mainstreaming, meaning building gender perspectives into all regular policies and work, was the main theme.

What does it mean?

The government wants companies and its own staff to think about how men and women, and other groups, can share work and decisions more fairly. Meetings like this are a way to collect ideas before changes are made to workplaces and policies. Nothing in this announcement changes a rule or a payment for ordinary people.

Who is affected?

Workers and managers at companies in the transport, construction, real estate and tourism sectors who take part in the network.
