Japan's FSA official urges derivatives market transparency and digital finance growth

Japan's Financial Services Agency said its international policy coordinator, Inaba, gave a keynote speech on October 23, 2026 at the ISDA Derivatives Trading Forum Tokyo 2026. Titled "Derivatives: Grit, Ingenuity, and Growth," the talk argued that derivatives matter more as uncertainty grows. It called for more transparency in over-the-counter derivatives trading and for developing digital assets and on-chain finance.

What does it mean?

Derivatives are contracts whose value comes from something else, such as prices or interest rates, and they are used to manage risk. The speech suggests regulators want these deals, especially those traded privately between two parties, to be easier to see. It also signals Japan's interest in digital assets and finance run on blockchain networks.

Who is affected?

Banks, traders, and firms that deal in derivatives, along with the digital finance industry.
