Japan expects higher daikon and cabbage prices but lower onion and taro prices in November
Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries released its November outlook for vegetable prices on October 30, based on talks with major growing regions and wholesalers. It expects daikon radish and cabbage prices to run above the five-year average, while onions and taro are expected to run below it. The main cause cited is heavy September rain and typhoons that damaged growth in several regions.
What does it mean?
If you buy vegetables in Japan this November, daikon and cabbage may cost more than usual, while onions and taro may cost less. These are forecasts for wholesale prices, so store prices can still differ.
Who is affected?
Shoppers buying daikon, cabbage, onions and taro in Japan, and the farmers and wholesalers who supply them.
