Japan clears rule letting rail agency pay airport rail interest subsidies

Japan's cabinet approved on October 30 an amendment to the implementing order of the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency Act. The change lets the Agency pay an airport access railway construction interest subsidy, a payment it receives from the national government and passes on to certain railway operators. The order is set to take effect on November 5.

What does it mean?

The government approved a rule change so the rail agency can hand out help with interest payments for building airport train lines. The agency gets the money from the government and passes it to certain railway companies. The rule takes effect on November 5.

Who is affected?

Railway operators building airport access lines that would receive the interest subsidy.

What changes?

The order did not explicitly list this interest subsidy among the Agency's payments; the amendment adds it to Article 4.
