Italy expands wine consortium's oversight of Calosso DOC

Italy's agriculture ministry has widened the role of the Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato, a wine producers' group, so it can oversee the Calosso DOC wine label. A DOC is a protected designation of origin that sets rules on where and how a wine is made. The decree is dated 21 October 2026 and was published in the Official Gazette on 29 October 2026.

What does it mean?

The Barbera d'Asti consortium now has a wider official job looking after the Calosso wine label. For wine drinkers, this means the rules that protect the Calosso name are backed by a named group that checks and informs about it.

Who is affected?

Calosso wine producers and the Barbera d'Asti consortium's members.
