French government receives report on simplifying building rules for public buildings

On Monday 2 November 2026, a government task force will hand over a report on cutting red tape in construction and renovation rules for public buildings run by local authorities. Minister Françoise Gatel will receive it at the Hôtel de Roquelaure, with the report presented by inspectors general Boris Ravignon, Nacera Hasddouche and Christian Cremona. Gilles Carrez, head of the national body that reviews regulatory burdens, will also speak.

What does it mean?

Local councils and other local bodies that build or renovate public buildings may see fewer or simpler rules in the future, if the government acts on this report. The report is being handed over now, but this announcement does not itself change any rule.

Who is affected?

Local authorities that build or renovate public buildings, and the officials who manage those projects.
