France temporarily lowers maize feed requirements for Poularde du Périgord during drought
France has temporarily relaxed the maize requirements for the Poularde du Périgord poultry label, which certifies birds raised in the Périgord region under set rules. The change, signed by the ministers on 22 October 2026, responds to drought and runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 October 2027. The minimum maize share falls at each stage of feeding, and the order was published on 30 October 2026.
What does it mean?
Poultry sold under this label must still be fed mostly grain, but farmers can now use less corn to fatten the birds. The easing is for a set period that ends on 31 October 2027, because drought made corn harder to get.
Who is affected?
Farmers who raise Poularde du Périgord birds under this label and the buyers who rely on its certification.
What changes?
Before, the starter feed had at least 25% maize within the cereal mix, the growth feed 30%, and the finishing feed 40%; now these minimums are 12.5%, 15% and 20%.
