France temporarily lowers maize feed requirements for Chapon du Périgord capons during drought
France has temporarily loosened part of the rules for the Chapon du Périgord poultry label because of a drought. An order dated 22 October 2026 and published on 30 October 2026 lowers the minimum share of maize in capon feed during the early and growing stages. The temporary change covers 1 October 2026 to 31 October 2027.
What does it mean?
Capons raised under this label must now get less maize in their feed during the early and middle stages of life, because drought has made maize harder to grow. The change is temporary and lasts until 31 October 2027. Farmers who raise these birds under the label are the ones affected.
Who is affected?
Farmers raising Chapon du Périgord capons under the label.
What changes?
Before, capon feed had to contain at least 25% maize for yellow capons and 15% for white capons in the starter phase; now the minimum is 12.5% and 7.5%.
