France sets specialist-only prescribing rules for reimbursed drug TENTIN
France has added strict prescribing conditions to the reimbursement of TENTIN, a dexamphetamine-based medicine, through an order dated 28 October 2026 and published on 30 October. Under the order, only specialists in neurology, psychiatry or pediatrics, and specialised services, can write the first annual prescription and annual renewals. The conditions follow a January 2026 opinion from the transparency commission, the body that assesses medicines for reimbursement, which flagged long-term heart and brain risks.
What does it mean?
TENTIN can only be reimbursed when a specialist in neurology, psychiatry or pediatrics starts it, and renewed once a year by the same specialists. Patients on it need heart checks, including an ultrasound, at least every 6 months.
Who is affected?
Patients who take TENTIN and the doctors who prescribe it.
