France sets formula for passing strategic diesel savings on to drivers
France has set the formula for how much cheaper strategic diesel must become for fuel sellers, under an order dated 29 October 2026 that applies the decree of 23 October 2026. The advantage equals the gap between a market price benchmark, based on the average of five recent index values, and the average cost SAGESS, the state-linked stock company, paid for the stocks. Fuel sellers must pass that saving on to final customers as lower pump prices.
What does it mean?
Fuel sellers who get strategic diesel from the state stock can no longer keep the whole gain for themselves: the saving has to reach the pump. The order gives the exact formula for working out that saving, which is the gap between a market price benchmark and the average cost of the stock.
Who is affected?
Fuel suppliers that put diesel on the market and the drivers who buy it at the pump.
