France sets auction parameters for its 2030-2031 electricity capacity mechanism
France's economy ministry has issued an order setting the demand curve and auction parameters for the 2030-2031 delivery period of the country's electricity capacity mechanism. The order follows a proposal from the energy regulator, the CRE, dated 8 October 2026, and was signed by Roland Lescure on 28 October 2026. The capacity mechanism is a system that pays power producers and others to keep enough electricity available for when demand peaks.
What does it mean?
The government has now fixed the rules that will be used to run the auctions for electricity capacity for 2030-2031. Capacity payments reward power suppliers and flexible users for being ready to deliver electricity when the grid is under strain, so this sets the numbers those auctions will use. The order applies from the day after it is published.
Who is affected?
Electricity suppliers, consumers, and operators of power plants, storage, and demand-reduction capacity who would take part in the 2030-2031 auctions.
