France recalls two lots of aflibercept eye-injection syringes over a defect

ANSM, France's medicines agency, has recalled two lots of aflibercept eye-injection syringes after the makers Biogaran and Advanz Pharma reported a manufacturing defect. The affected products are Afiveg 40 mg/ml (lot 2461572) and Mynzepli 40 mg/ml (lot 2393229), used to treat wet macular degeneration. Three eye-related side effects linked to the defect have been reported in two other European countries, and none in France.

What does it mean?

If you use Afiveg or Mynzepli, check the lot number on the box. If it matches lot 2461572 or 2393229, take the box to your pharmacy and they will swap it for a new one.

Who is affected?

Patients treated with Afiveg or Mynzepli for macular degeneration, and the pharmacies and eye doctors who supply or give these injections.
