France raises pay for doctors who train junior GPs in practice
France has changed the pay rules for supervising doctors who host trainee general practitioners, called docteurs juniors, in medicine. The order, dated 26 October 2026 and published on 30 October, rewrites one article of a 2011 internship decree. It sets monthly bonuses and flat payments, from 300 to 800 euros gross depending on location and patient profile.
What does it mean?
Doctors who supervise trainee GPs in a practice can now get extra money on top of their teaching fees. The amount depends on where they work, whether they cover out-of-hours care, and how many of their patients have their health cost fully or partly covered. The extra pay goes to the employer if the doctor works for a health centre.
Who is affected?
Doctors who act as maîtres de stage for junior GPs in general practice, and the health centres or pluriprofessional health houses that employ them.
What changes?
Before, the 2011 rules set the terms for supervising doctors; now the article is replaced with new bonus and flat-payment amounts.
