France drops university president's countersignature on applied arts diplomas

Decree no. 2026-1012, dated 28 October 2026, removes the second paragraph of article D. 642-29 of the Education Code. The change ends the requirement that a university president countersign the parchment of the diplôme supérieur d'arts appliqués (DSAA). The decree was published in the Journal officiel on 30 October 2026 and takes effect the day after publication.

What does it mean?

Students who receive the DSAA, an advanced applied arts diploma, will no longer need a university president's countersignature on their diploma parchment. The change takes effect the day after the decree is published.

Who is affected?

Students receiving the DSAA diploma and the public service offices that issue these diplomas.

What changes?

Previously, the DSAA parchment required a university president's countersignature. That requirement has now been removed.
