Environment Ministry picks 10 groups for urban bear-control technology trials

The Ministry of the Environment selected 10 organizations from 56 applications to take part in a demonstration project testing bear-control technologies such as drones, cameras and apps in urban areas. The project aims to verify their effectiveness.

What does it mean?

Bears are increasingly showing up in towns and causing injuries, so the government wants new tools tested in real places. Ten groups will now try out technologies like drones, cameras and phone apps to see whether they help keep bears out of populated areas.

Who is affected?

Residents of towns and cities where bears have been appearing, and the ten selected organizations running the trials.
