Battery safety booths set up at three J2 football games in December

The Ministry of the Environment is running lithium-ion battery safety events at three J2 League home games this winter, in Akita, Kofu and Yamagata, working with local governments and the clubs. Visitors can see information panels and photos at a special booth, drop off old mobile batteries for collection, and answer a survey. Lithium-ion batteries are the rechargeable kind used in phones and power banks, and improper disposal can start fires.

What does it mean?

If you carry a phone or power bank, you can drop off an old mobile battery at these booths and learn how to throw lithium-ion batteries away safely. The aim is to reduce battery fires.

Who is affected?

Fans attending the three J2 home games and people who own old mobile batteries.
