About 2,6 Millionen people with Turkish roots live in Germany
Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), marking the 65th anniversary of the recruitment agreement with Turkey, reported that about 2,6 Millionen people with Turkish migration background lived in Germany in 2025. About 1,5 Millionen were immigrants themselves and 1,2 Millionen were born in Germany. Around 125 000 former guest workers who arrived before the 1973 recruitment stop were still living in the country.
What does it mean?
About 2,6 Millionen people in Germany have a Turkish background, either because they moved from Turkey or because they were born here to parents who did. This group is the largest origin group among people with a migration background. Most Turkish-born residents came mainly for family reasons.
